"once you get behind the estate walls it becomes your own quiet and rural oasis."
The property is about 15 minutes from Porto city center. It was a large farm and still retains a portion of the orchard, kiwi bushes, vineyards, vegetables and some small farm animals around the stone houses. The once rural village has sprung up as part of the extension of Porto city but once you get behind the estate walls it becomes your own quiet and rural oasis. The old family estate still has its chapel and old farm houses. The pool room was where the grape crushing occurred before when wine was produced and sold. All arrangements were easily made by internet or phone with the owner and his parents live on the estate and welcomed us on arrival – a bit late at night. Wide cars should remain parked outside as the entry way is narrow and unforgiving solid stone on each side. Families with children will love this place. We had a multi-generational family and the kids could not believe their luck to have a pool table in their “dining room”, a swimming pool out back, tennis court and football (soccer goals for indoor soccer) on half the tennis court. Every time we went out to explore Porto or Guimarães, they looked forward to “go back home” and play. The home is an opportunity to stay in an old farmhouse and get a taste of old time rural Portugal with the thick stone walls and furniture. But then there are the conveniences of the modern age with a very fast internet in the main house (pool house) and all the modern conveniences. Barbeque yourself or go a few blocks away to the local grill house or other restaurants. A 2-minute to a coffee house and pasteleria with fresh bread. Amazing place and great value for our extended family group.
